Chaos Magick is a recent addition to the Ritual Magick family, and owes its genesis to magician Peter Caroll, who created this system of dogma free sigil magick largely from the work of Austin Osman Spare.

Chaos magick itself shares some similarities with Thelema. Though it may be unwise to say that to some from ether camp!LOL To embrace Chaos (Thelema) is to renounce such false gods and accept that our actions as magicians will change not only ourselves, but our world. Insofar as both Chaos and Thelema are valid paths, thus far will they change us. To cling to an identity, however pleasing or fulfilling, is a denial of magick. Magick is about change, the only constant factor in the unfolding of the implicate order/chaos of the universe.

Chaos magick itself is to simplify, to do away with the unnecessary, and to free yourself from dogma. To use what works plane and simple.

You should really not read anything about magick.

Just go do it. You know how.

Would you say Rehand that Chaos Magick is making sense out of a mess so to speak?

Well I guess you could say it's all about simplification. Its about getting directly to the point. Many older methods have so many different rituals many that do basically the same thing.

So basically all forms of magi ck whether Wicca, Hermetics, Alchemy etc. is taking chaos and simplifying it into something understandable, to take half and make it whole. We basically are born into a mess of a life and must clean it up and try to make sense of it all as best we can. With Magick it is the same as we strive to clear away the debri and leave the order behind. Yes?

What I mean is that magick is instinctive.

You don't have to call it anything. You can just do it.

Especially when you are talking about chaos magic. The less you know, the better off you are. The more you know the more you wind up following some other guys ideas. Break free, go out into the scary wilderness and bring back some treasure of your own.

Well Chaos magick is a specific path itself that uses no particular dogma but, its core concept can be used by many other paths as well. Many who practice Wicca, Hermetics, Alchemy etc. don't exactly share this philosophy but can use it's techniques.

Well I disagree, knowledge is power. The idea of Chaos Magick is being able to have this knowledge but, not be attached to a particular idea.

Many new to this path seem to fall into the trap that you can just go out into the world and do as you please. This path actually requires quite a lot of study in understanding not only yourself but, natural laws. All the founders of this concept of Chaos Magick have had a solid background in Ceremonial Magick.

I agree with Redhand. I have come across too many who think they can do as they please with no consequences and I have seen not nice things happen to them. I use to think that it was okay and nothing would happen. I learned the hard way. When I found ceremonial magick it finally all started to make sense and fall into place. You are right it is hard work with discipline and practice, but I would not have it any other way. Thank You Redhand, you make sense out of the Chaos, no pun intended.
