Has anyone here ever made their own runes before?
Am thinking about doing the same myself and am interested in what methods and materials to use. What type of stones, where to find them, if u should reshape them from their natural form etc.

How long did it take you? I'm pretty sure it would be a labourous task. I'm thinking about just going out to a river bed and finding a lot of small similiar sized stones. Do they have to be a certain type of stone? Do they have to be cut and shaped?

Hi

As I see this, time should not be an issue. Nature is not rushed like society and your approach to creating a rune set (something I am intent on doing), should be following a natural, slower pace.

I have made my own runes. They say they are more powerful when you make them, rather than the store bought runes.

Because, they have your power in them, and not someone else's.

great answer!

many of the magickians I know from the more Ceremonial Paths have always attested to same. Whether it be wands, swords, cups, daggers, robes, whatever else.

Remember, Odin communicated the runes from the tip of his own spear.

I've made my own set of specific runes/sigils from a template that I've created, much like the Golden Dawns Rose Cross Sigil Creator. I decided that I would make one and stick to it so that it would be more established, I even got it laminated so I would keep it in good condition. Its what all of my sigils are constructed from, I tried to draw it as best as I could and then got it laminated.

The runes/sigils I use can be used for basically anything. I often inscribe them on candles, sometimes clothing and I had a nice carving on my old altar as well. I haven't gotten around to doing anything onto stones yet, but it would definitely be something I'd like to do once I have the time and resources.

You can use many different types of things when your making your own set, stones, wood, bone, in fact i have some deer antlers that I plan to make into a set eventually. I've made a pine set and burned the runes into them. Another thing should be taken into consideration when making your own runes. It is good once their finished to wash them in a river, stream, or other source of natural water. Also, I find that a simple ritual of making a small cake with whatever runic symbol is speaking to you at the time inscribed on it. This works as somewhat of a binding spell to not only connect the set of runes to you specifically, but also as you eat the symbol you take it's power into yourself. I chose Ansuz, Odin's rune because it is generally connected to divination, clairvoyancy and making the right decisions. I use my runes for more than just myself, so I wanted them to be true to helping others in finding the guidance that they may be looking for through them.
