Hello all.

I use a computer program 'Orphalese Tarot' to perform divinations before a magical working and this seems to work very well. My question relates to reverse cards as I have never really used them and seem to get good readings without them. Now, if I shuffled a physical pack I could reverse some of the cards - in the program I can only reverse a certain percentage of the pack. Am I missing something by not using them ?

It's really up to the reader whether or not to use reversals. I see it as a whole new layer of information and added depth, but others may not see it the same. A lot of decks come with meanings and interpretations for reversals, but I have come across a few decks that don't. The most I could say would be to try it for yourself and if you don't like it, don't use it. However, even if you don't use reversals, it doesn't mean that your readings will be any less accurate.

On another note, I've also tried the 'Orphalese Tarot' program and to my understanding, each shuffle a certain percent was reversed so you could end up with half the deck reversed if you shuffle enough. I may be wrong though since it's been ages since I've looked through the help files.

The reverse cards are more of a rein in or a warning, but you don't have to keep them reversed. There are decks that want you to right all the cards if they are reversed, and others want you to keep them the way they have fallen. I personally embrace the reverse, and I have had a whole deck of cards decide to revers after they have been right side up. the cards work the way they are meant to.

I personally don't put stock into reversals. though most do and many deck explanations do as well. basically they are an opposite of the card drawn in averse.

not to disrespect your program but having a percentile of anything seems wrong to me. it seems to me it should be as is. It should be like cracking out a deck shuffling, spreading then placing.

I agree with Zelda and Zero, a reverse card is the opposite, and a reverse card can be good. I notice those programs do that a lot, I wouldn't place too much emphasis on that.

That will make reading a lot easier.I don't like reverse cards because that had always signified something bad to me.

oh me i have been taught that when they reverse just reverse them back. sometimes our subconscious does that to learn.

Well, Isabeau. I have been taught, if some of the cards are reversed to leave them that way, because they are that way for a reason. I guess it is the difference in how we are taught to use the cards.

Reversed cards, as I was taught, can also signify the energy of the card, but in a more subconscious way. For example, if a question such as: "Would my teachings of a specific field in the occult is right for me?" should arise, and the card given is "The Chariot" reversed, that means that the way might be right, but there still could be a field you can benefit better for yourself.
