Attracting your Familiar

I'm wondering if there was a spell or anything that would attract your Familiar to you? I know that you generally 'find' each other...but I've heard of spells that attract Familiars to you although I've never found an actual spell.

You could probably create a personalized ritual to do the job. There are a couple of basic themes in spells like this that would probably serve you well. Usually when beseeching a spirit for aid it is considered polite to leave a gift. You can see this in Santeria where cigars and rum are offered to Eleggua the master of magic to gain his favor and his blessing before any magical undertaking can begin. The offering should be appropriate to the type of spirit you want to attract. While you don't have a choice per say you should know what you have an affinity for.

You might place the gift in your ritual space or on your altar depending upon your specific paradigm. If you work with sigils you might create one to create favorable conditions for your familiar to find your gift and you. This could be in the form of a dream or a vision. I usually notice a certain lucidity in the dreams that mean something, that is I'm aware of the dream and paying attention to it instead of just playing along with it. These are just a few ideas to get you started. I'm afraid I don't really have anything quite like what you're asking for.

Honestly, I beleive that for a spell of this magnitude it would require much more than a home-made spell. With a more simple 'drawing to you spell' I beleive you may find a totem or spirit guide, not an actual familiar. From what I understand a familiar can be eitheir spiritual or physical. If it is physical, after the animal itself has been found, it is through ritual that you merge the souls of both you and the animal. To me, that seems to risky, which is why I have a spirit familiar. A spiritual familiar is made by splitting off a portion of your own soul into a seperate entity. To me this is more desireable because I know Exactly what I'm putting into it.

I just asked my patron god to send me one.
Thats the only kind of familiar I've heard of. I suppose it would also depend on what tradition you use as well.
