ORTHODOXY AND ROMAN CATHOLICISM (http://www.ocf.org/OrthodoxPage/reading/ortho_cath.html)

The orthodox faith stems off the Byzantine era which in context is compared to the faith of roman catholicism.

The orthodoxy and the roman catholics were one church at one point. They just ended up splitting in two because they didn't know who Jesus was.
Is he the son of god or a spirit created by God?

I would say the separation was more political than anything else, both churches accept the concept of the Holy Trinity so the diference is that the patriarch of Constantinople didn´t accept the authority of the Patriarch of Rome ´aka`the Pope. This led to the split of the church in the XI century.
