On June 21st, 2007, a member over at Lashtal, going under the handle 'wulfram', who I assume is Bob Freeman over at occultdetective.com, was asking about a rare occult text or grimoire, they posted...

"Not being in my library, and thus unable to check my notes on the subject, a rarity that was rumored to be circulating in the late seventies is a grimoire whose title tranlated as The Book of Dead Trees. Three copies, painstakingly by hand, were said to be out and about, and it was said at the time that Grant was in possession of one of them."

The Grant he is referring to here is Kenneth Grant (the man behind the Typhonian garble) and unfortunately no one responded to his post, or if they did, they did so out of the public eye (as in, private message or email). I have already attempted to contact Bob Freeman, both by email [email protected] and on Facebook (aswell as on the Lashtal forums themselves via private messaging 'wulfram') and it is to no avail as he has not responded in any fashion whatsoever. So I'm posting on here to find out if anyone knows anything about this text or how/where to obtain this text. It does seem like a text that would be of interest to me, hence I am inquiring. One of the reasons I wrote Freeman was to ask about his notes (which he didn't have on hand at the time he posted that) for more details and to ask if he's made any headway in searching for the grimoire.

I am curious ... 3 copies painstakingly made by hand and translated? So the text isn't originally English? Any idea of what it might be translated from? That might help you track it down.

A forest is a symbol that contains death ... sounds close to being part of the Necronomicon.

Why are you interested in this book?

Because books are written on dead trees, my friend. Thank you for responding. Please keep me posted on anything you find out. I don't mean to sound cryptic, but...that realization really resonates with me. I think the book may be exactly what I've been searching for all these years. I hope I find it.

Edit 1: Oh I'm sorry, I forgot to address your question about the original language of the book. I'm sorry, but I don't know it. The only information I have about it was posted by 'wulfram' (aka Bob Freeman) and I wanted to ask him what the language was that it was written in, since he took notes about it as a case study but he never responded to me. I'm sorry.

Ha, of course they are written on trees ...

I did an internet search and found an odd bit of RPG dialogue with it mentioned. I am sure it's coincidental but it's usage is amusingly contextual.

"We had a book, about sacrificing 1000 people, do you know where it is now?" "The Book of Dead Trees. It's in Los Angeles." ...

Ick. I hope that is not the same book mentioned by wulfram. Thank you for pointing that out. (I'm not into sacrificing animals, plants or humans, or any flora or fauna, I respect all life just the same, that includes non-human animals and plants, hence my motion of disgust)

Any insinuation of a presumption of your intentions for the book was unintentional. Good luck finding it, please post with any updates.
