I like to start this thread by saying there are many different techniques of grounding the one I am posting here is the simplest for those starting out in meditation or for keeping them self in the here and now.

This was taught to me years ago before I moved into the practice Hermetics, and Magick

The fist thing to do is either standing or sitting comfortable and getting relaxed but focused imagine that there are roots extending from the base of the spine down through the legs through the bottoms of the feet with each exhalation like the roots of a tree going deeper and deeper into the earth.

Feel you legs and your body becoming heavier as the roots connect to the Earth Mother Earth

This probably he easiest technique to learn as one progresses the techniques for grounding will become more advanced as you find and move towards the path that you choose as you choose certain techniques will be taught and more experiences will be gained.

I just found this. Grounding is also a good way to keep your astral in when you have a tendency to not stay in your body.

its also good if you are doing a group ritual and someone descides to play "hot potato" with large amounts of energy...for the newer people to the occult what I mean is that in a group ritual especially when dealing with elements you get alot of free floating energy around, and alot of hte times there is people controlling the amount of energy floating around because some people find it "overwhelming" so theres people acting as dams or conduits to control that, and sometimes you get the people who lose it, and well you get a strong energy flow and the best way alot of the times to protect yourseld is to ground yourself and this will prevent you from being overwhelmed. it tends to be the "bread and butter" for this reason for most occultists

I found this true in a class many years ago and the energy was bouncing around the room for the strongest people could handle the energy that was coming into the room and it actually looked like there were open wires or loose connections and the energy was allover the place and the exercise had to be stopped

but it made people take notice what they were getting themselves into and the effects that the energy could and can do, that it was something that is real and needs respect

for the next couple of classes were spent on grounding techniques

Perhaps wearing light shoes such as sandals where you can feel your feet not so far from on the ground below.

years ago I was being attuned to the Mariel energies.

and after the attunement we were told to go outside to ground the energy we were also told not only to walk on the grass but also the cement walk.

We were instructed to come in and tell the instructor what we felt

As we ( I ) walked on the grass you could feel the energy flow down through the crown and the entire body to the earth, but as we ( I ) stepped on the hard concrete you could feel the energy when it got to the feet reflect back up through the body and felt like a ping pong ball effect in the body and changed again when we ( I ) stepped back on the grass earth

This is a good basic technique, and everyone should learn the value of it no matter the path they practice!

This is from a book titled Me, Myself and I.

Walking with a walking stick used to be a preferred way of trekking, or taking a nature walk; being not only so wonderfully useful for steadying, shying and probing, but also as an aid to enhance the relationship the individual has to his or her surroundings.

Via the stick, there becomes a correspondence between the hand and the earth beneath us: the forces which emanate out through the fingers are directed specifically into a rod which carries them through to the ground. (This will occur via metal or wood.) This staff not only conducts itself the one way, but receives into it also immediate emanations from the ground up as well, which are translated and read by the sensitivities connected to the hand.*

The effect is twofold and results in our bonding with our environment in a way which is more informed and well focused. Our own egoic forces are somewhat constrained and channelled thus, being directed through the rod and are involved with the stern reality beneath the feet. This is especially helpful for people who are 'wandering' within their thinking, having difficulty being aware of the reality begging around them; and of course for finding one's way on bushwalks!

*Note: The forces as described are not examples of the entire output of egoic emanatory efforts, but relating to those meridians which express themselves through dynamic effort and out into the world through the fingertips themselves.

I guess the main reason for grounding is the same reason that the electricity is grounded in the house the current would be all over the place and all would be shocked

If we didn't ground before and or after the energies that we raise would stay in the body and could cause psychological effects on the person distort the equilibrium of the body.

The grounding gives the energy a path to flow in from the crown the head through the body out the feet to earth.

To see the effects of electricity in it's rawest form see a live wire laying on the ground and snapping and flopping on the ground this is some what the same effect on a lesser scale that happens inside the body and puts the body out of kilter to some aspect and some practitioners will tell you to correct this is to hug a tree or put your back against the tree

Other techniques can be used in the shower or bath as the water in the shower is flowing over the body and into the drain and connecting to the earth this way.

Grounding is vital for ones wellbeing not just spritually, but physically and psycologically, as well .

Grounding techniques are nowdays used in many theraphy groups run by medical practicioners, as well as clinical psycologists, etc...

The physical problems from a person being continually ungrounded is for example: high blood pressure, strokes, heart attacks, feelings of detachment from the people arround them (at times resulting in depression, anxiety, panic disorders, a sence of floating above their body, etc..), not feeling some or most of their body parts (getting real injuries from acidental, so called bumping into things), decrease of blood flow to the persons extremeties (hands and feet), resulting in things like nails not attaching to the nail bed or coming off the nail bed, being physically shut down (being very cold and quite colorless or even comes across as lifeless) or the other extreme is ,where a person is life of the party and completely colapses after, it taking often days to recover and find their bearings again, etc...so real physical complications...

Grounding I beleive is espesially important, when a person is doing a lot of spritual work , as many of us spend quite a bit of time up in our head....

So thank you, for posting grounding tecniques....
Would be nice to see some more grounding tecniques posted.:)

I always used black tourmaline gemstone for grounding/sheelding.

But still sometimes once outside i feel like im flying ( like my shoulders are pulled up.) Like im out of orbit:(
I need to use something much stronger to ground myself.

usually i lose my perception. :) That must be grounding problem right ?
