I'm really interested in making my own Tarot deck. As in my own. I don't think I can understand the complex meanings of each card that I have in a Tarot deck, so I've decided that I think I should make my own deck myself, so I can understand it clearly.

I don't want it similar to any Tarot deck, I want it to be really of my own. I just don't know how to start.

Has someone done this before? Do you guys have guide lines on which cards I should make first? o.O

I know someone who used altered Bicycle playing cards for the purposes of divination. As for Tarot, it is a specific form of divination deck. Understanding a basic Tarot spread takes some work - the real esoteric stuff - like Cabalistic Tarot - is open for years of research.

I would possibly consider doing my own for a heightened connection to the cards and primarily and artistic challenge.

I want to make my own deck (mostly for the size - every deck I could buy is either too large--like the one I have now--or too small for my hands). Unfortunately, I'm not that great of an artist, and I'd really rather do readings with something that I'm proud to look at and show off to others. Not embarrassed.

I assume most of your readings will be for other people. Everybody wants things that look cool, but remember, it's you that does the real divination anyway, not the cards. That said, you can use a deck of regular playing cards for the same purpose if need be.

Yes, I usually do readings for other people, mostly because when I do readings for myself, they reveal information I've already been shown (dreams, etc.) I guess a better way of explaining it would be to say that I want my deck to make me feel a certain way. Expression-wise, I want a deck that makes me go ":)" not ":/".

And yes, playing cards! So much fun to do divination with. Especially in public. People are always like "Oh, are you playing solitaire?" And you're like "Nope, I'm doing a reading," and the conversation goes on from there. But yes, playing cards as used in Cher's song "Dark Lady". I find it amusing that the described spread seems to tell the story of the song; I'm just not sure if it's intentional or not.

And THAT, as they say, was all she wrote.

Someday I plan to make my own deck as well. I have all of the titles of the cards written down as well as ideas for what each will contain. I plan to meditate on each one before constructing it and there should be 99 total; none of them conforming to the traditional Tarot at all.
