I have been wondering for quite some time now, am I the only one that thinks that people who get interested in the occult nowadays are very different then those of 10 years ago?

While reading forums and talking and meeting people outside of the internet, I notice the "newcomers" are only interested in: summoning demons and selling their souls, bodies, sexual services to them, different kinds of kinesis(while may I say they dont even have a slightest clue about energy itself),talking to ghosts and other entities for the **** of it, claiming they are 7800 years old vampires who cant live without blood, claiming to be angels or other entities and my personal favourite absurd: claiming they are a reincarnation of a God or Goddess. These to be honest sicken me. What happened to all the people who were interested in doing the things right way? Who you could have a normal conversation with, who strived to enlighten their soul and spirit and learn new things and progress on their path.People nowadays claim meditation,AP,energy work, everything exept learning how to shoot fireworks from your fingers or killing your neighbour cause he didnt say Good morning in the right tone, is useless.

Is it just me or do others ever get the feeling that people are different now?Maybe I am too old... or too young...

I've noticed that too. But here's the way I see it:

We can specialize and specialize, but it's not until we've had a taste of every occult art out there that we finally choose to sit down and perfect it, or even make our own. The thing that doesn't hold true is learning magic for 'when you need it'. Too many people don't realize that this is indeed a lifestyle choice, not just a "Hey I'm bored, wanna summon a demon?" If you are a true magician you only act using magic when absolutely necessary, and can carry a higher head to judge what is worthwhile, and what will yield no fruit. I beleive the higher goal of enlightenment is still there, but only for those who choose to make it a lifestyle change. Beyond that, I think I'll use the term 'backyard magician' to describe these occasional occultist.

Magick is magick and there is no deep seated reason for occult interest. go to the library and whine people. sick of this "I am thinking with my intellectual part" which fucking sucks, people get into it for many reasons so save the **** for a new age forum. You don't know your crap. Violins please and the **** is deep.

Things are different nowdays, as there are TV shows like supernatural etc..many get interested in the occult I believe because of these.
Some seek it out because of a need to break free from an oppressive religion. Others are in need of genuine help and have no other options left.
There are many reasons, it isn't anymore just for people that have grown up with it and should not be either.. If you have, count yourself lucky that you have. It would be a long road ahead of you, if starting from a TV show, etc. Personally I don't think I could have the commitment, so I take my hat off for those that do.
