Ive been trying to do meditation and I feel im not doing it right. Im normally focusing on my breathing while im doing it and I get a sense of peace but I still am aware of everything that is around me and I dont think im in the state of peace or nothingness. Anyone know any tips or techniques i can try. Cant do yoga people very inflexible.

It is ok just focus on your breath beaing aware of your surrondings is a good thing. You don't really want to strive for nothingness or instant quite of the mind as the mind is trying to grab and wants you to "do smoething" this is basially because of the normal everyday life we are constantly doing something. If you are like me i watch tv listen to music and on the computer at the same time so i found it hard to focus once i began my meditation practices. You can try just simply breathing whenver thoughts come into your mind just be aware dont analyze it just notice with a gentle curiosity and let it pass. Hope this helped sorry for spelling errors typed it rather fast :)

Meditation is overrated IMO. Maybe that is just because I am unable myself to do it so I figure why struggle? Michael Kraig, author of Modern Magic offers a technique in said book. It utilizes the tarot in which you study a card to memorize it, you then close your eyes and visualize it. Then from top to bottom in a zigzag fashion kind of erase it all the while focussing on the remaining image. This is brilliant to me because waiting for silence in my loud ass brain is like putting a a square peg in a round hole because some hippy tells you to. This method, however ,is equivalent of giving a child a sucker with a stuck wrapper on it. Entertain it and it will shut up.

Meditation is not for everyone so no big deal. I meditate three hours a day, and I ain't got a sucker. Usually people who can't are just lazy or just can't concentrate. It isn't overrated only misunderstood. Meditation is the first thing a person needs to know in order for the progression of other things.
