I no longer wish to contribute to this forum, my apologies, but I'll be removing anything that was my own work (Essays, pathworkings, training exercises, and the like.)

Since Lady Dunsany has left these forums, they have decayed and degenerated, in my opinion. I see no one and nothing left of the greatness that I saw when I first arrived. Goodbye everyone.

Six Illusions of Reality

Survival, the first Illusion
Life, the second.
Death, the third.
Happiness, the fourth.
Good and Evil, the Fifth.

Survival. At every moment, we work toward the goal of survival the first and most basic instinct of any race of animal. At every moment, we simultaneously take one step forwards, and backwards towards this goal. Thus, survival is an illusion- but this does not make it invalid.

I thought survival was the activity of sustaining one's bodily needs.
Just because a truck needs to be refuled doesn't mean the truck is an illusion.

Life. This comes along the same line as survival, we will here define life as the past and the present- because in life there is no certain future. At this same point, life is a sand timer that constantly dribbles away. Which is why time is the most precious commodity imaginable. Life is an illusion, because it does not wholly exist. But this does not make it invalid.

Well i agree that life is deluded, but not because of how temporary it is but because of how the mind needs to be controlled in order for the body to live.

Two very good points. I had to really dig into my own definitions to provide responses...

We constantly use up the energy we gather from the acts that sustain us. Forward, backwards.

I was never under the impression one's mind needed to be controlled for the body to live, I may be misunderstanding your point- if so please do explain. But.. The mind can be wild and untamed, but the body would still live. It would just live with less boundaries- though the point of this illusion is that, we're never in a certain state of life or death, we're always in the middle of them. Thus making the notion of "life" as a state of being, an illusion. I hope my terminology didn't muck that up further <.<

But anyhow, the point of the essay would be lost if I smooth-talked you into my way of thinking. It is represented as a challenge so the reader questions their own reality and thinks about their beliefs closer. But if I was to lead you to a theory of reality, it makes the whole thing pointless. Though- no harm in clarifying, eh?
^^ Cheers

I have lived my life in this very simple statement. Life is not certain and is an illusion death is not certain and is an illusion. Is the middle ground what we perceive as a bit of reality? We are going from life to death but actually you are right about being in the middle. Death is really life and life is really death. Now I have to go have a cup of tea and a biscuit. You have made me think too much today on only two hours of sleep.

The middle ground as I see it, is a state of constant flux, but it can also be our little island of solid reality in the sea of change.
