Default Portable Magic - Donald Tyson

I acquired this book a few months ago, and thus far the system works for me. As it currently stands, I am deployed to Iraq and did not bring any ritual tools with me. I kind of doubt that I could perform many full CM rituals in the tent with 5 other guys there, without attracting far too much undue attention. I packed a couple of books and two decks of tarot cards. So when a friend suggested this, and then sent it to me, I had high hopes. The material didn't quite meet them, but it really did not disappoint me either. I am curious if anyone else has read it, and if anyone may have some thoughts on the idea.

For those who have not read it, the basis of the system proposed is to use tarot cards to create your ritual working space, perform your rituals within this space, with further cards to represent your desired goal of the working.

I was unable to find an electronic copy of the book, but there is the link to it on Amazon.

Good books also check out Donald Kraigs Tarot & Magick and Tarot and the Magus by Paul Hughs Barlow.

I know what you mean, I too have been stuck in Iraq. I used to get up extra early to go and meditate and such when I was not out in the field. I was with the Rune Gild and I would drive everyone crazy with certain chants. You should be able to find others of like mind though. I know the Xians go crazy when they know what you are doing!LOL

Thank you Myro and RedHand for the book suggestions. I just ordered DMK's Tarot and Magick, and the one by the Ciceros. And Redhand, surprisingly our unit's Chaplain(he's Catholic) knows a few things about The Qabalah and some basic CM practices. Nice guy, doesn't push the whole Catholic thing on anyone. He was the only one who showed up when I posted a note at the MWR about metaphysical discussion. But, I have yet to meet anyone else around here who actually knows anything beyond watching Charmed...

No problem. Best of luck on that note!

    Default Christopher Penczak

I have Christopher Penczak's first two books in the temple of witchcraft series. I'm thinking of skipping the third (shamanic temple), and going to higher temple (ceremonial magic). Has anyone read his books? What do you think?

Why the hell are you guys in Iraq? I'm getting the impression that it's for the military or something?
No reason to apologize. I am currently enlisted in the U.S. Army. Have been for just over 6 years now. This is actually my second tour over here.

Thank you Mrs. Peel. :-) I am just counting down the time now. I take leave/vacation in June(getting married then, too :-D ), then in early August we start to pack up. August 12 makes our 1 year mark in-country. Everything has been fairly smooth going thus far. Much much more calm than the last time I was over here.

That's good to hear, my last tour there was in 2005 when I was injured just before I was to go back home. It is good to hear that things are calming! Keep your head down and stay safe!

I am glad it was only an injury and not the end of you, though I wouldn't wish injury on you either. I was over here Jan 05-Jan 06 with 3rd ID out of Ft Stewart, GA. We were on Camp Rustamiyah, near Sadr City.
