The world exerts a kind of deterministic "pressure" that we call "reality." It's what keeps the ordinary laws of gravity, thermodynamics, cause and effect etc. functioning. Those laws, and others like them, don't function on all planes of existence, but they do function predictably in the world of matter. As magicians we can sometimes work around this pressure, but we can't disregard it as irrelevant. This pressure is what keeps astral entities invisible to normal sight and intangible. A location that for whatever reason has a reduced level of reality develops a reputation for being haunted since it is here that normally invisible entities can become visible. It's worth noting, for instance, that strange phenomena tend to cluster, regardless of the assumed nature of the phenomena. Ghosts, UFO's and Bigfoot sightings often happen in the same areas over time, even though the popular imagination attributes them to radically different causes (ie, dead people, aliens and living, albeit unknown, animals, respectively.)
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. --Margaret Mead

A good magician never reveals how a trick is done.
An evil magician never leaves any evidence that there was a trick in the first place.
