oh i beg to differ strongly on this one. The only limitations we have are those we impose on ourselves.
I will never give up on magick. Let 1000 sigils go waste but never ever.

Sigils rock. They are fun and you can get so creative with them. I wouldn't give up on sigil work. It can be very rewarding if only even for art purposes. My advice is to take a break from trying them for a bit. Get it out of your mind. Then when you come back to them, don't read about how to make sigils. The whole "it is my will" thing is kinda played out and, well, at least to me, boring. So when you come back to sigils just do it all with intuition.
I once did one at work by holding a cup full of paper clips and focusing on my desire or what I wanted inscribed into the sigil. At the apex of that focus I threw the paper clips all over the floor. I copied the shapes they fell in and made a design out of that. I then taped the sigil to a computer while I tried to beat a high score on a video game. I tend to get "zennish" or "vacuous" when I play video games. After I beat the high score I went outside, burned the sigil and the forgot about it. The sigil was to see a man wearing an orange shirt. It worked within 10 minutes. No shitting.
So point is, HAVE FUN with sigil magick. Don't treat it like a business. Give yourself a break and then come back to it with some renewed energy and ideas towards it and I'm betting you'll see results pretty quickly.
Also, start small and realistic with the results you want. It builds confidence which is of course really important with stuff like this. That's not me talking. I think it's Peter Caroll.
@ reinga Yes tobacco is technically posonous so is chinese food and doritos. Consuming boiled tobacco in small amounts is perfectly safe, and it will give you vivid dreams. Indians have been doing it for thousands of years. Ever been to a sweat lodge? Anyone doesn't like my answer, then don't try it. More for me!

I wonder if yourself is holding you back. I know how fun pain/suffering can be for people, but your higher self might be protecting you.
I'm really bad with sigils (they never look right when I make them), so I can't advise on what you're doing, but I would try a different method of charging them. Something more energy focused and less... well... symbolic.
I have never had a bit of convincing success with sigil magic. Honestly, I don't even understand how the theory underpinning its purported mechanism is any different from--or includes anything more than--that implicated in hypnosis.
Cool story. I'm a beginner in sigil magick and I've made my own sigils but they have not worked the way I wanted to and I think that is because of my own obsession. I am very obsessive (for example: I fully hate my job and I wish to move to a better one and I can't take that desire out of my mind).
Now I am making sigils related to some "unwanted desires". I mean, something I would like to have but I know it won't obsess me (for example: I would like to get five bucks next week or similar)
I´m terrible at sigils. I don´t get quick results..the gap between castig the sigil and the actula happening is about 1 year (for me). Anyway, here are some points that I think might be usefull:
1) Are you sure that you are letting the desire go? It´s not only to forget the sigil per se. It is, actually, to put a gap between you and the intented manefiested on the sigil. Let go the desire, not atach to it.
2) Grant Morison´s pop magic has an excelent tip: Try to cast sigils to ordinary things like sun shine in the morning, a 24 hours day..it´s a way of letting you mind get use to the whole sigil process.
3) Another great is to prepae several sigils put them ona box, and only when ou have a good number of them and forgot about them, charge it..
Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream,
It is not dying, it is not dying
Lay down all thought, surrender to the void,
Is it shining? Is it shining?
That you may see the meaning of within
It is being, it is being
