Default Was Simon Magus Considered a Gnostic?

In early christianity, I'm talking with the first century after Jesus' crucifixion, his disciples went out and preached his word. There were many others who were influenced by his teachings enough to disseminate them to the world. One of them was known as Simon Magus. He primarily taught in the middle east and was even believed to have had a showdown with the reputed first pope and founder of christianity the apostle Peter.

That little preamble aside my question here is could he have been or is he considered to be a Gnostic?
