I was researching Vodou, but stopped after I found the religion did not suit my personal interests. I found it to be incredibly superstitious, but that is not what really bothered me. Instead, I was highly annoyed by the lack of personal responsibility in Vodou. Have a problem? Don't work it out for yourself; go see the mambo or hougan. Only they have the power to solve your problems. There is no self-enlightenment unless one is training to be a priest or priestess. I remember having an argument with Mambo Racine (who is white woman masquerading as a black Haitian to scam people out of their money) about just what I wrote in this topic, and she said I did not know enough about Vodou to be having such a debate. While I did and still do not know all the superstitions, rituals, and loas, I knew enough about the general concept to have such an argument. It fell on deaf ears, though, so I left her little Yahoo group.
Anyway, I hope you have had better luck. Welcome to the forums.
