    Default Hello

Hi everyone! Thanks for being here. I am an opinionated Canadian chaos witch who specializes in tarot divination. I love gardening and kitchen magick also.
I am currently working toward a trip to the UK to take part in a debate on British Christian TV with a Lancashire vicar who has written a book about how to save pagans and occultists, to be televised on Oct 29. I never thought I would have my very own Halloween special!
So, for this reason I am seeking out people of like mind to talk to first, to help me hone my arguments. Also because I like to talk.
It is delightful to meet you all!

    Hello idnami

Seeing as how I'm also new here, welcome!

Here is something to use in your debate...the String Theory.

Subatomic strings of energy (wich expand and contract depending on how much electrocal-magnetic energy is in the area) hold dark matter together. Dark matter is theorizied to be the actual essance of reality itself. When electro-magnetic waves interact with these strings, they expand and become unstable. In theory, giving us a glimpse into another dimention.

It sounds like a lot of nonsence, but metaphysic scientitsts believe in this theory so much, a super collider was built in Sweden or Geniva (I'm not sure which) specifically designed to find dark matter.

You could use this to counter the arguement stating "Contacting outside intelligances or spirits is evil" by pointing out that these dimentions naturally exist, therefore they are beyond good and evil. They are as much a part of nature as a harmless butterfly.

Another thing, (and not even religious leaders can counter this arguement) is that a certanty in magical practice is the fact that God is just as much evil as he is good.

Think about this, God created the Devil, so in essence, the devil is a part (or at one time was) of God. If God encompasses everything, then he is also evil. The bible actually states that God can become angry and is prone to jealosy, so he actually kept these to himself when he created Satan, also adding Greed to his shortcomings.

But this is an arguement I use use to state that the Christian God, is just as uncaring as the Gods in Greek mythology.

By saving, do you mean the christian kind? Are you going to play "Devil's advocate"? I am very good at propoganda and, while you may not think so, diplomacy. PM me if you have any specific questions. If you are a chaos witch, you might want to read this book:

    Welcome!

I hope your debate goes well, but with religous minded types it's usually always pointless. You can't argue with people who don't want to listen or change. Well, you CAN, but it never seems to go anywhere. Hopefully some kid out there watching will be inspired to start questioning his beliefs and surroundings though. Anyhow, that's a ballsy and intimidating thing to tackle. I wish you luck!

Some good points IMO to consider:

    1) "Occult" and "Pagan" are simply other ways of finding spirituality. They are highly misunderstood terms, so make sure the people you're arguing with understand the clear definitions so they are not sitting there calling you a goddamned satan worshipper! Morons!

    2) Spirituality is a personal journey, tempered through personal experience. Religion is an institution of man where ideas are diluted and blurred and passed down as doctrine, unquestioned for ages, collecting falsities and distortions, many reflecting political influences of the time. Looking within yourself for your own connection to "god" or creative energy reflects the nature of existence, as you organically question and test things for yourself, un-diluted by others politics or hidden motives. It is truer to YOU, because it comes from you, as god comes from you and not another mans words.

    3) errr, well my friend is bugging me to drink a beer with him so if you'd like to talk more, PM me!!

Wow, you guys are awesome! Thanks for that book suggestion, I will definitely look around for it.
I am aware that I am unlikely to convince any Christians of anything other than I may be damning myself as intelligently and charismatically as possible! I am doing this for 3 reasons.
    1) I have never been to England and this seems like exactly the motivation I need to get me out there for what will otherwise be a major spiritual pilgrimage. Glastonbury Tor is #1 on my list of holy sites to visit.
    2) I feel that there will be at least one person watching who needs to hear what I say. The show is 90 minutes long and I get to present my case any way I like, plus there will be viewer phone calls with questions as well. I think what I can say may benefit someone out there, somehow.
    3) Being on TV is neat.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome and I look forward to chatting with everyone some more.

I can appreciate that. A lot of my thinking resonates well with Christianity. I think there is a big difference between the occult interpretation of Jesus' teachings and that of the 700 Club, for example. This TV station endorses the 700 Club approach. I find that most mainstream Christians tend to view occult Christianity and Gnosticism as a sacrilege or a perversion of "true" Christianity (as defined by whatever denomination they happen to be)
I don't mean that to sound rude. My disagreement is with the concept of Judgment and everlasting punishment for sins if one does not believe in this. Christianity, at least the brand practiced by the folks I am going to see, seems to have a fair number of disagreements with me however. I am going to address these because, as I said, I sense that there may be someone out there who will learn something they needed to know. Also, who knows? Maybe everyone learns something. I am not going out there to scrap with these people, but to share knowledge to whatever extent they will accept it. Does that make sense?
