    Default Finnish Mythology

I've been trying to find out more about the practices of the Finnish people throughout the ages. There seems to be some debate as to where the Finnish peoples originated from. Is anyone aware of the type of mythology or mysticism employed by the Finns.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Meh...of the couple of Finns I've worked with..."spiritualism" seems to go about a far as Vodka...although he told me that his favourite thing was to sit in his Sauna while drinking Vodka until he almost passes out and then run outside and roll in the snow naked...now thats gotta be usefull for something

    ...maddness
Prick your finger it is done
The Moon has now eclipsed the Sun
The Angel has spread its wings
The time has come for bitter things

Hello, Finn here. We have our old mythology involving deities like Tuone and Tapio, but nothing fancy. I'd say shamanism is all we can offer, I'm afraid.

I also think this is a pointless necro-post, but what the hell.

hmm...I grew up in Finland and had stories of 'Kalevala' come out of my ears by the age of 9 at school. We had to even make a 'Kantele' in wood work ( a Finnish traditional instrument), it was part of the study.
Then again I didn't go to a traditional Finnish public school, so I think we had a bit more than usual of it, in the school I went to.

Catholics brought christianity, to Finland and that was that, for 'Kalevala' and the old mythologies.
It is still taught in schools though, with Finnish History lessons.
Many jewellery designers, fabric designers, music, glass ware designers, etc.. are still inspired by the old mythologies and Kalevala.

So it's still is part of the Finnish culture, for sure.

Here's a link to some Finnish music, with the olden days used as inspiration:

More information about Kalevala etc. Check this website:
