It is sad but not incompetent. They know what they are doing but they lack ethics. Film makers and directors are revered as great intellectuals within the occult world and are distinguished by their hidden knowledge they display in their films. Knowledge that can only be understood if one knows the secret connections. They understand this information and use it unethically within their work. The way the knowledge is used always determines one's morality.

can it be taken a step further why Hollywood became this way, influenced by the historians, the archaeologists with their digs that they go on and the mystery or the mysteries that the come back with

King Tut's tomb and the secret messages that they have found inscribed on the walls if you just tell the story boring but though in the magick the mystic and what have you got

it's quite easy to see how and why Hollywood got to be so big. When movies first came out the fascination they had, a type of "magic", recording acts and individuals for others to see, one can easily see how this was mesmerizing to people back then and even today. A simple analogy would be the internet now, how people spend hours and hours a day on it.

As far as control, no I disagree that in anyway Hollywood or movies in general exert control over people. It and they do influence people tho, much as books do or anything a person hears, reads or sees does. We are not in isolation, therefore everything, nature included influences us in one direction or another.

    Now a question?

Are movies and the internet making people more weak minded, lethargic, obese, etc...?

I think it does make one lethargic. I have a friend that literally lives on the Internet, and has actually missed out on socializing with his friends, etc. You have to take a break in my case I try to stay away from other forums as much as possible and make sure I actually have a life. We need a happy medium.

Interesting topic...I remember getting remarkably stoned one night and watching a really bad 1980 "B" action film. I remember thinking..."who in their right minds would find this entertaining, I'm not in my right mind I find it ridiculous"

This got me to thinking, and I ended up with pretty much the same sentiment as the opening post, control, manipulation of the masses, cheesy moral stories wrapped in explosions, car chases, gunfights and a blond bimbo with a bad perm.

I then had another joint and thought a little more.

I don't think that these Hollywood types/entertainers are some all powerful and manipulative crowd manipulating and controlling society and its mindset...its the other way around. We are actually dictating to them what we want to see...we just don't know it.

Their true art is to pick up on cultural and societal tends that "the masses", (that's us), display...wrap it up in a story and give it back in a nicely digestible format. They are the watchers of society, what they do reflects us. That's why we are so obsessed with them...because we are actually obsessed with ourselves. In them, we see ourselves. That is their magic.

A few cases in Cases in Point, (for which I know I will get flamed )...who's the biggest film star nowadays?...Will Smith...Whose the next President of the USA?...connection? Maybe?...but the world is sick of conservative old white men.

2 much anticipated hollywood mainstream films are "Slumdog Millionair" and "Other end of the line"...both deal with India and the relationship between India and the west. Why not? India is big now, and making itself more and more open to the west...this is the Wests response. Culturally, the west and India have more in common than the West and China...we fear China, but embrace India. Hollywood has noticed.

Britney spears...now there is a very clever artist, I've often wondered...what if the whole thing is staged? The fall from innocent grace, the insanity...then she's back and looking ridiculously good again? These days, I think People respond to famous people with issues and problems more than the squeeky clean ones...you mother probably likes George Cloony and Brad Pitt...we like Heath Ledger and Amy Winehouse...people that are strange...like us.

They have even noticed the upcoming resurgence of occult interest in society...buffy, charmed and a plethora of other really, really bad related shows.

Tell you what...if Hollywood truly is a reflection of society...
Prick your finger it is done
The Moon has now eclipsed the Sun
The Angel has spread its wings
The time has come for bitter things

in my opinion stars and musicians these days are like little attention seekers. Like the little kid that cries and whines until someone gives them the "what's wrong honey?" The problem, that society feeds this, gobbles it up and wants more, more, more.

I can actually see one day what some movies say about the return to gladiator death fights and executions on pay per view. You see by just what I mentioned this has been around in one form or another for all time, ie roman gladiators.

This is discussed in an episode of the Esoteric Science Roundtable: Anna Nicole, Britney & MInd Control Very interesting, I highly recommend it.

But personally, it think there's no way to generalize 'Hollywood', let alone its effect on society. I am sure that there are indeed people out there making high budget movies, attempting to control people through them. I am also sure that there are very normal, down-to-earth if you will filmmakers that just do what they do because they want to. Some movies are just good movies, like for example 'Requiem for a Dream'. It's a masterpiece of visual storytelling.

On the other hand, I think mass media are used by some to very deliberately control people: when people see movies in which the characters that are supposed to have some kind of appeal do certain things, people associate those things with a good feeling. Captain America, the comic book super hero, was invented to promote this patriotic feeling in America, just like the Pledge of Allegiance. Just like '24'. Jack Bauer and all the other people that work to save the day are symbols. I firmly believe that all that meant as a form of religion, not in the sense of worship but the original meaning of the word: religion means union. I believe that the U.S. government is controlling their people through something they have turned out to relate to. I'm not a conspiracy theory buff, but it makes sense.

I think that if 'The Matrix' didn't feature the war that mankind fights against machines in union, it would have never gotten so big. It makes people see themselves as part of one side, opposing something else. Great stuff for a government trying to shepherd people into thinking whatever.

I also think that there some enlightened directors in Hollywood who try enlighten others, through this medium. The Wachowski brothers were trying to tell the world something through 'The Matrix', plus they're avid storytellers.

Aside from this possible higher influence (which I doubt anyone in Hollywood is aware of), of course movies are trying to turn us all into the same creatures, but as S33K3R said, they only reflect us. People and Hollywood are passing the ball of society to each other.
