    Default Power Wanes

    Minor question.

In my childhood, I had a deep interest in the occult. Minor experimentation, studying, and beginners luck have yielded me results on several occasions (ranging from moving a needle with my mind 1/3 an inch at will when in the right mindset, successful spells, the ability to easily meditate, etc). Of course, this was five years ago (and I stopped due to incidents that I'd rather not discuss).

However, lately, seeing as to how my interest in the occult has been resurrected, lately, I've been practicing with very little success. I guess I may need a bit more discipline, but I'm just curious: Has this happened to anyone else? Is this normal?

Above all, anyone have any pro tips on how to fix it? I KNOW it works, as I've witnessed it several times. Now for the hard part

Yes. I had the same problem for a while... More than likely what happened is that whatever happened was traumatic enough to you that your subconscious is actively blocking you in an effort to prevent a similar occurrence. As far as what to do about it... the quickest way would be to either face the same event head on in an effort to "barrel through", or alternatively find another means to accept what happened. a.k.a. talk to someone you trust about it, try meditating and attempting to place hypnotic triggers, etc.

    Default Hope this helps.

I have also had this problem, but nothing had happened in my life that was traumatic, it seems it happens to quite alot... the way I got through this period was to step back, focus on meditation. I meditated using a meditation technique that I read from one of crowley's books which was the only effective method at the time. After a couple of weeks on daily meditations I 'broke" through and it was one of the most strangest moments of my life, there was nothing then intense light and felt like my body rose up in the air really fast, it was a intense euphoria so much so I had to pull myself out of the meditation. Never could reach that point ever again. But it got me out of that problem. Meditation in itself is a form of contemplation, maybe it will help you work through your traumatic experience.

    Default Cool stuff

    Major update here.

Taking the advice that was given to me, I started my meditation process. First, forcing myself to actually relax to get to the root of the problem (by following some extremely "barney style" basics such as telling my body to losen each muscle and resisting "scratch urges." after this battle was won, i began to go through the list of everything that bothered me from the time. I'll spare you the details, but let's say it had to do with my (one would call) "talents" conflicting with the my emotions and the opinions of a vast majority of the "occult community."

Anyways, i had to accept that I am who I am. Harder than it sounds.

small edit: I say that it was "harder than it sounds" because it felt like something was fighting against me. The further i dug, the more it fought. Eventually, after reflecting enough, i found several things out about thoughts that i would never have realized i had (on a daily basis, in the back of my head. The emotions tied to them. . .)

After an hour of fighting and tearing down every reason i wasn't myself, it sort of "clicked."

small edit: I came to the acceptance of how my magic works and what it does, and realized that in the end, despite everyone's "magical moral opinion," that i have to make myself happy (and that i have the power to do so).

After the click, i cast a spell and it worked the next day with full results. . .

The only issue here remaining would be the fact that i may have to repeat this painful process before i perform any type of spellcraft for a very long time. However, I guess it's to be expected. I'm in a workable state, which feels AMAZING.

Thank you both for your help

small edit: I guess i left enough hints in there for you all to "piece together what may have happened."

I guess Im no Columbo, because I haven't the slightest clue what you're talking about . . but it's your business anyways.

Having said that, and not knowing your circumstances, I would have to add that children are more "naturals" at these sort of things anyways (minus the focusing part, usually). It's just like how we stopped believing in our "imaginary friends" . . . our views on the world have been unwittingly altered by all the crap we've learned and experienced, and have been taught, growing up in this modern, western world.

But anyways, you totally 'knocked me down a peg' with the whole Barney comment because, even though I've been practicing meditation for years (on and off, had a LOT of crazy stuff happen that threw me off track now and again that I also wish not to talk about) . . .sometimes I still have to "tell" my muscles to relax or fight the urge to scratch that itch!!!!

Great to hear you've made progress, though!!!

    Yeah, I believe it!!

They don't want us to do any "deep thinking" in general, it leads to "troublesome" ideas about authority, our assumed "freedom", and make us want to change the ways we live and do things . . . . and that doesn't help them with their lust for power and money!!!

I agree that children are often more open and able when it comes to magic. They have a better ability to "see" and understand, and are more free to enjoy and experience new ideas. As we grow older, we become more closed and narrow minded, cynical and we repress our innocence and abilities.

Nice to hear you've uncovered what was holding you back, and rediscovered the power you've always had

children are better at magic because they are like uncarved wood, close to the source. More specifically they have not learned to blot out the real world because they fear it. frequently people hear a noise go to turn on the light and pray silently "please don't let me see a monster...please don't let me see a monster...please don't let me see a monster..." and then they get their wish.
Magicians must stare wide eyed into the abyss ready to see whatever hell is in there.
remember how you could run and run and run as a kid and never get tired? "maturity" is overated.
