Default Hello, new to the occult, don't know where to start, have a very basic understanding

Hey guys, I've been reading a lot of material on the occult, inspired by my discovery of none other than the illuminati. While I cannot say I agree with what they are doing, delving into what they believe in has shaken my spiritual foundations. Since then I have become involved in researching particularly metaphysical Christianity, some hermetics (did I spell that right?), the Kabbalah, Solomon, Esoteric and some Exoteric, Rothschu-blah blah blah (can't spell it), general occult etc. I'm trying to figure out where to start. I did some basic wiccan stuff back in the day, honestly, didn't get anything out of it.

I'm mainly interested in psi/mental manipulation. I'm looking for something that is relatively easy (don't need random odds and ends constantly), easy to grasp, and preferably doesn't involve nasty spirits... I'm new so I figure I'd be wise to avoid that for now... I'm really pretty new still, it's amazing how much material there is to cover, but it's not too surprising. Looking for some pointers... I have read Transcendental Magic, so I have a basic grasp on symbolism and honestly, I've always had a great eye for that stuff, Neurolinguistic programming, reverse speech etc. I've been having an increase of quantity and quality of deja vu lately as well... Has inspired me to get back into this research. Anyways, your input is appreciated.

To clarify, I'm more into white magic, I wouldn't mind fiddling around with "grey" magic, but I don't want to touch black magic until I really, really know what I'm doing.

Welcome to the Black Flame soaren ,

Given your interests and where you're at I would suggest studying Chaos Magick

I just checked the wiki, all I read was "Belief is a tool" and I was instantly interested, however, Chaos Magick does not adhere to a system of spirituality, would that limit it's potential? It's neutral perspective seems to be a good starting point however, so I'll look into it in detail. Do you have any good links on it?

Still open to other ideas as well. Thanks guys (and girls).

I can turn you on to a vast amount of Chaos philosophy and practice, first I suggest getting a foundation going, this means Initiation, doing some groundwork first.

    I wish you the best,

chaos magick isn't as different from other occult systems as it seems. i wouldn't necessarily say that chaos magick does not adhere to a system of spirituality as you say, though it seems that way at first without reading a little more. look into the concept of kia put forth by Spare, that is an important element of chaos magick for many of its practitioners.

My path isn't xtian based or Kabbalah (despise both), so I can't help you in that area, but I do know several people who are conjurers/workers of the Hoodoo variety, specifically Southern or Appalachian. From what I gather, they use the bible and that sort of thing as well as being 'spiritual' in their way....hope that helps a little.
