Default Belief in self or meglomania?

I primarily think of the LHP as a belief in self but then it also strikes me how thin is the line between believing in self & megalomania. Belief in self may also bring about the inflation of the ego. No, I am not saying that it is wrong or right as I believe that to each his own. But I would like to hear what everyone here thinks of it. Do you think you believe in yourself or you think its an inflated state of the ego?
As for me personally, I think belief in self is a must but inflation of ego is best avoided. But that is just me. But then the intellect loves to love itself. To me megalomania is a state which is almost like ecstasy. But it makes me think of other humans as filthy vermins. Ah, see there it is taking over me. I get a huge adrenaline rush when i read these words.

    "I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:
I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: "

Maybe I should mention that I was always a bit theatrical.

    Interesting discussion.

What I find a paradox with the ego and the dissolution of the ego into the Godhead which we call enlightenment is that to dissolve into the One consciousness requires the obliteration of the ego and yet, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Light".

Seems like Jesus himself was a bit self-obsessed
In all seriousness, ego means individualism to me rather than self obsession. Obliteration of ego also means loss of self, individuality, freedom, creativity, art & the intellect.

Obliteration of ego & self obsession seem to be two extremes & I can't help thinking of these words by Peter Carroll. "White Magic
leans more toward the acquisition of wisdom and a general feeling of faith in the universe. The Black form is concerned more with the acquisition of power and is reflective of a basic faith in oneself. The end results are likely to be not dissimilar, for the paths meet in a way impossible to describe. The so-called middle way, or path of knowledge, consisting of the acquisition of secondhand ideas, is an excuse to do neither and leads nowhere."

I find that quite fascinating, much like the statement "every straight line is a part of a circle'' .Extremes meet. I wanted to make another post to discuss this cyclic nature of duality & I will probably.

these two concepts are the same, there is a point of not you; as well as not them. ever rime or create from nothingness(the well of darkness(yet not evil))? intellect agreed, yet there it stands.

what is white magic...ah ego, agreed.

    and power is?

    lovely and true.

The so-called middle way, or path of knowledge, consisting of the acquisition of secondhand ideas, is an excuse to do neither and leads nowhere.
i disagree the middle way is the prodigy of both, yet obliterating them into essence, both extremities take knowledge, as does the so called middle but a little more.

I say it is a diameter, and two opposites meet in attraction when certain elements are met, such as unders6anding.
Man is invited to question, discover, explore,
and manipulate the world around him and use it for his benefit.

A teacher I had once told me that when I had learned just enough to be dangerous there would come a test. I would take a path to serve others or to serve myself. That test did come when a job I desired vary much could have been had by using my family name. In those few moments that I contemplated this action I came to the place of thinking of all others as vermin. I could not go down that path and had to say no. Many would have been harmed if that line had been crossed and there would have been no way back.

I think most will recognize the test when it comes. I don't know that serving yourself is in and of it's self bad but it usually involve harming others.
