Now I've read it works best to find your wand from a tree that is no longer living BUT is it bad to cut a piece from a tree as long as you give proper thanks for the tree's gift or is it mandatory that you shouldn't harm the tree in the process of wand creation?

Yes that is true, there is a thread at EM about that very thing. It is important to ask the tree's permission, and no you shouldn't cut of a new healthy branch, but if the tree says yes, it is okay as long as it will not interfere with the tree's growth. My staff and wands have come from finding a branch on the ground, and they have been very powerful.

I figured as much but thought I would ask anyways.

    It never hurts to ask.
